A few weeks ago we sent out an appeal for new moderators or co-moderators for our Fall 2009 calendar. We’ve had some good responses, and as a result we have people interested in running the following courses:
Latin America: a comparatively ignored area of the world except in a crisis.
Advertising: could look at the psychology of it, the techniques, whatever.
The Arctic: do you know enough to be able to help us discover more?
Murders that Changed History: from Julius Caesar through to Benazir Bhutto. So many to research and discuss.
In each of these four cases, we’re looking for someone else (you?) who would work as a co-moderator with the person who’s already volunteered. So, if any of these topics catches your interest, this is your chance to get involved.
In addition, there are lots of other suggested topics still looking for moderators. Read through the suggestions below, and see if there’s something there that catches your fancy.
Medieval History: a topic most of us know little about; you and your class could learn together.
Afghanistan: lots of news items almost every day – could you help others to acquire more background?
Jerusalem: a perennial topic of interest in all its aspects.
50 or 100 Years Ago: what was life like then? How have things changed / stayed the same?
Women Who’ve Made a Difference in Canada: a good study group topic. There are many women who could be included.
Or how about these?
Astronomy
Toronto
Great Canadians
Africa
Dead Sea Scrolls
Tutenkhamen / Egypt
Challenges of the 21st Century
Canada & Immigration
Pirates and Piracy
Canadian Literature
The Former Yugoslavia
Financial Collapse - the Villains
Many of these would work well as study groups with class members doing much of the research and presentations. But we need moderators or, even better, co-moderators (2 or 3) for each course. Co-moderating makes the experience even more enjoyable and more relaxing.
The moderators are the ones who do the initial planning and organization for each course between now and late September – that’s 3 whole months to get ready! So, how about YOU? Can you help us out? Can you challenge yourself? Are you ready for a great experience?
Of course, if you have any other idea or ideas of your own which you’d like to pursue, that’s fine with us.
So, if you’re interested and/or have any questions, contact me this week, and I’ll be glad to give or get you all the help you need. Remember that there’s lots of time between now and late September to do the work. And you’ll learn so much in the process.
Thanks, Simon Pearson
