Free Psychology Department Course for individuals aged 80+

Sharpening Your Mind Using Psychology Everyday A Learning and Research Opportunity! Spring 2009

Programs for 50+ in The Chang School offers older adults various opportunities to participate in research studies in the various schools and departments in Ryerson University. The following is an offering from the School of Psychology to participate in one of their research studies which is open to you.

Please feel free to contact them directly as noted if you wish to be involved.

Course Description:

With age, people commonly experience declines in their abilities to memorize things and solve problems. The general objective of this course is to train older adults to overcome these problems and maintain their mental functions.

This course is part of a research project and thus it is free of charge.

Course Capacity and age limit: This course is a repetition of the training course in the summer of 2008. It is set up specifically for people aged 80 and above.

The class limit is 20 students.

Registration is based on a “first come, first served” basis.

The instructors/researchers: Dr. Maureen Reed (Associate Professor) and Dr. Lixia Yang (Assistant Professor), Department of Psychology, Ryerson University.

Course Plan: The training course includes 8 sessions. In each session, the students will practice specific skills designed to improve their performance in problem solving and memory and discuss how the skills could be applied to daily life. These sessions are designed to be both educational and fun. To determine how much the training will benefit you, you will also be expected to participate in a pre-course session, an immediate post-course session and a follow-up session.
