LIFE Travels - Join Us for a Tour of Colonial Mexico

Our nine-day tour of the colonial heart of Mexico, organized just for LIFE members by Globus Tours, offers the opportunity to explore the beautiful and elegant small towns around Mexico City.

Daily Highlights

Day One – Arrive in Mexico City. Proposed Hotel: Centro Historico

Day Two – Mexico City – We’ll have a full day to discover highlights of this former Aztec capital. Founded in 1521, Mexico City is colorful, vibrant, and cultured. We’ll visit the cathedral, the National Palace, the Frida Kahlo Museum and much more.

Day Three – We will stop first in Teotihuacan, “the place where men became gods” – a major Aztec archeological site. We will continue to San Miguel de Allende, a charming town populated by many American, Canadian and Mexican artists, for a two-night stay. Proposed Hotel: Best Western Monteverde

Day Four – San Miguel de Allende has many exceptional social programs. The first day will be spent exploring a variety of these innovative and culturally appropriate programs. Our guides will be LIFE members who winter in San Miguel and work in these programs.

Day Five – San Miguel de Allende – Guanajuato – A city tour will show us the pretty colonial streets and buildings of San Miguel de Allende, full of galleries, shops, and colorful winding streets, protected since 1926 when the whole town was declared a national monument. We will visit a local studio to learn more about the unique artist community. Then we will head to Guanajuato, considered by many to be Mexico’s most picturesque city, for a 2-night stay.

Day Six – Guanajuato, birthplace of Diego Rivera and important for its silver mining and production since 1548, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tour takes us to Juarez Theater, the Diego Rivera House, and the historic Alhóndiga. Proposed Hotel: Hotel Misión

Day Seven -- Guanajuato–Pátzcuaro–Morelia -- Leaving Guanajuato this morning, we will travel to Pátzcuaro, one of Mexico’s most fascinating towns, sitting high on a hillside above the shores of Michoacan’s largest lake. We’ll explore Pátzcuaro’s winding cobblestone and timeless colonial courtyards. Later in the afternoon we will arrive in Morelia, capital of the state of Michoacán. Proposed Hotel: Hotel Fiesta Inn

Day Eight – Morelia–Mexico City
Built in the 16th century, Morelia is an outstanding example of urban planning which combines the ideas of Spanish architecture with the Mesoamerican experience. More than 200 historic buildings, all in the region’s characteristic pink stone, reflect the town’s architectural history. Later in the afternoon we will return to Mexico City. This evening our Tour Director will host a festive farewell dinner.

Day Nine – Mexico City
Our vacation will end this morning with guests departing on independent schedules.
