ACT II STUDIO at the FRINGE

The following is a message from ACT II STUDIO:

Dear Friends,
With the Fringe we have the most amazing opportunity to advertise ACT II STUDIO through our LEACOCK LIVE show. We need your help to make the very most of this opportunity. Will you help us paper this town YELLOW with Leacock Live posters/fliers? We have posters, bookmarks, and fliers just waiting to be spread around the city. Already we've got a small army of 9 people who've come forward to take material around. Would you join us in this massive distribution effort? We've got everything you need at Heaslip House on the 3rd floor on the cabinets as you come in. Attached is a sheet compiled by our SWAT team with distribution suggestions. (Also attached for you delight and your own use is POSTER #2 featuring Yvonne Taylor and John Allin. Your friends might enjoy seeing this one (and it serves as a reminder).
If you're planning to see Fringe shows, would you pass around our lovely bookmarks (with ACT II info on the back) to the line up? That would be such a great help. COUNTDOWN: 7 days to the Fringe! We can SELL OUT this show. With your help, I know we can! We're still pinching ourselves that ACT II STUDIO has this opportunity. Let's fill the Tarragon and spread the word about this wonderful place!

DISTRIBUTION MAGIC
We have book marks, fliers and posters. We hope to paint this town YELLOW!
Where oh where to distribute?
Libraries, Cafes*, Bakeries, Gourmet Shops, Meetings, Stores, Places of Worship (do you think they might announce it in their bulletin?), Community Centres, Workshops you might be taking, Beauty Salons, Friends & Neighbours, Condo laundry and other rooms, Bulletin Boards wherever you can find them, Theatres, Restaurants*, Choir practice, Sports places
*Ask if they’d put a book mark in with their bills. (The Elephant & Castle has agreed to do this for us – so it’s possible). How about holding a Leacock brunch!

SKILLS - CEL (Computer Education Lab)

Another LIFE Asset:
The Computer Education Lab (CEL)

Who says senior citizens can’t learn the new technologies? The vast majority of LIFE members get information from us on-line. As we celebrate LIFE’s 20th anniversary, we can think back twenty years and wonder -- what did we do without all this instant communication?

Okay, so computer talk is easy for many of us. How about helping other LIFE members into the computer age? The LIFE Computer Education Lab (CEL) is equipped with modern computers, and we will shortly be installing Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

If you have worked with these programs, we could use the skills you have acquired.

You can help by teaching current CEL instructors about the changes in the new software, by teaching a course yourself, or by teaching with the help of a current CEL instructor. Teaching in the CEL is not onerous: one to four sessions of 2 hours a week with 4 students, at a time and day that suits you. If you have ideas about other computer courses, please let us know! We welcome all suggestions to enhance our members’ enjoyment of their computers.

So, if computer skills are among your assets, we hope you will consider helping.

Please contact Hermine Borduas, Computer Course Coordinator, at hborduas@sympatico.ca, or Rosanne Bernard, our LIFE Office Administrator, at lifeinst@ryerson.ca.

NEW MODERATORS - FALL 2010

To reply to this click here>> smnprsn@yahoo.com
Or telephone Simon at: 416-489-1727

A few weeks ago we sent out an appeal for new moderators or co-moderators for our Fall 2010 calendar. We’ve had some good responses, which will result in a number of new courses. Right now we’re looking for a co-moderator for the following course:

First Past the Post: Is its Day Over? A look at past, present & future voting systems in Canada.

We are also looking for moderators (or co-moderators) for courses in these areas:

Spanish Conversation: We have a moderator for a beginning level class. We need someone with a good knowledge of Spanish & preferably a teaching background to moderate an intermediate / advanced level class.

French Conversation: This one is the reverser of the Spanish one. We have a moderator for an advanced class. We need someone with a good knowledge of French & preferably a teaching background to moderate an beginner / intermediate class.

Art History & Appreciation: We’ve had a number of art history and appreciation classes in the past, but there seems to be a shortage of moderators right now. How about you? Would you be interested?

Topics that link with LIFE’s 20th Anniversary: This means looking at what has happened in some area (e.g. science, politics) in the last 20 years.

If any of these topics or areas catches your interest, this is your chance to get involved.

The moderators are the ones who do the initial planning and organization for each course between now and late September – that’s 3 whole months to get ready! So, how about YOU? Can you help us out? Can you challenge yourself? Are you ready for a great experience?

Of course, if you have any other idea or ideas of your own which you’d like to pursue, that’s also fine with us.

So, if you’re interested and/or have any questions, contact me within the next few days, and I’ll be glad to give or get you all the help you need. Remember that there’s lots of time between now and late September to do the work. And you’ll learn so much in the process.

Thanks,
Simon Pearson
Chair, Fall Calendar Committee
